New Marvin Malton Cushion: have you got the guts to wear it? by Julien Aguettaz

Marvin, which I like to refer to as the oldest of watchmaking start-ups, has kept its youthfulness thanks to its highly-dynamic, extremely shrewd and ever-so talented team coupled with the authenticity of the firm, established in 1850.

The Marvin team, most definitely inspired by its ambassador, Sébastien Loeb, works fast, very fast. Spurred by the success of its Malton Cushion timepiece, and its myriad of variations (including the sexy Khaki launched for Marvin’s 160th anniversary), here is the new Malton 160 Notched Cushion.

It sometimes only takes a detail to change a watch and to make it something out of the ordinary. Here, this detail is an innovational, perfectly-exquisite, notched bezel, embellishing the new Malton Cushion timepieces.

And, as one piece of good news always deserves another… this timepiece is proposed in a white dial version. Yes, it must be said, elegant, sportive gents like to match their items of clothing with their timepiece, and thanks to this watch’s 42 mm steel case, can continue to cultivate their resolutely virile look.

The “red detail” (the red 8 o’clock marker on the dial), characteristic of Marvin timepieces since the creation of the brand, still plays its central role. If you are curious and would like to know the origins of this tradition, I recommend you explore the dungeons of the Vaumarcus Castle in Switzerland, Marvin’s headquarters, and try and discover the secret.

The dial, under the anti-reflective sapphire crystal, hosts a chronograph, minute, hours and small second counters as well as a double day/date aperture at 3 o’clock. They are all set in perfect harmony and are highly legible.

And, it would be pointless to even try and categorize this timepiece, with its careful blend of design and materials, its cushion-shaped case and its dial that would place it somewhere between sophisticated coolness and sportsy design… so, as we can’t classify it, we’d rather slip it onto our wrists. This Malton Notched Cushion joyfully reflects the creativity and freshness of a brand that keeps up with the times.

The movement of this timepiece is powered by an automatic ETA Valjoux 7750, incorporating 25 jewels and a highly sophisticated finish, making it decisively solid and reliable. It is equipped with a power reserve of 48 hours and beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, even at a depth of 50 m. Its movement can be admired through the transparent caseback.

Three different straps are proposed: black leather with red or white topstitching and stainless steel.

Prize-wise, true to Marvin’s philosophy, the Malton Notched Cushion is realistic, selling at 1,889 euros in its leather-strap version and 2,070 euros in its steel-strap version.
