Marvin’s international adventure reaches another important milestone: the official launch on the Chinese market in partnership with Artax Watch Trading Ltd. was celebrated during the last weekend at the professional watchmaking show held in Hangzhou.
The busy racing schedule kept our brand amabassador Sébastien Loeb away from this event but nevertheless he managed to be close to his Chinese fans and to wish Marvin all the best for the China launch:
The brand received a very warm welcome during the launch event organized in the beautiful Chinese city of Hangzhou, famous for its West Lake. During the fair, Cécile Maye, Marvin’s CEO, together with the Chinese partners, announced the opening of over 40 points of sale in the Middle Kingdom and proudly presented Marvin’s collections of original timepieces as well as the brand new shop in shop concept.
Marvin’s presence in the Middle Kingdom is though not new, the brand has already a long-running history with China. It was actually one of the first Swiss watchmaking companies to do business there. Raymond Didisheim, CEO of Marvin from 1944 to 1973 recalled that “during the second world war, Marvin’s sales director from Austria went to Shanghai to develop the business in Great China”. Pierre Didisheim, Sales & marketing director of Marvin Watch from 1944 to 1973 wrote that “at the end of the War, Marvin had great success in China and was well-known for the quality and the reliability of its movements and for its know-how in manufacturing chronometers.” The brand took also part at the Swiss Instrument and Watch exhibition in 1964 in Peking and at the Swiss Industrial Technology Exhibition held in the same Chinese town in 1974.
With a reach past filled with passion and dynamism and with its modern, powerful vision fuelled by inventiveness and authenticity, Marvin continues its horological adventure in the Middle Kingdom. Looking at last week’s China launch in Hangzhou and at the positive reactions that this event have generated until now, we can only say that “the journey is the reward”, as a beautiful Chinese proverb says.
