Ever Hear of a Watch Matchmaker?

Neither had I. Until, that is, I met up with Meehna Goldsmith from Los Angeles, California a couple of months ago. Meehna is one of the most original, interesting people I’ve met in horology so far. She lives on Twitter and Facebook as well.

Meehna cuddles up to Max Busser

I knew Meehna was a prolific writer and blogger (I met her as a contributor to one of my favorite blogs). I knew she was a respected columnist in the most prestigious publications out there (Financial Times, American Express Magazines, Robb Report Watch Collector, International Watch, Watch Journal, and HH Magazine, to name a few) and I knew she had more horology (and celebrity) connections than I could ever hope to dream of.  I also knew her vast and deep horology knowledge was prized in the industry. What I didn’t know initially was that she’s the first and only “Watch Matchmaker” in the business. What the heck is a “watch matchmaker” you might ask?

Now, in all honesty, Meehna never billed herself as such. Her website says “Haute Timepiece Consultant and Stylist”. But when she started describing to me what she did, I was like, holy cow, you’re basically Patti Stanger the Millionaire Matchmaker. Except you match guys to their perfect timepiece instead of hot single chicks! For those of you who don’t know, this is one of the hottest shows in the USA lately, filmed right in my previous California backyard :)

Hanging out with Quincy Jones

That’s right folks. If you’re a well-to-do business mogul, executive, celebrity, or other type of millionaire with a pressing need to meet his perfect timepiece match, then Meehna is the gal you want to talk to.

What’s the best brand for me? What model is best for the image I need to project? What complications match my personality? How do I avoid being taken advantage of? How good an investment am I making? All questions that the typical retailer has neither time nor knowledge to answer. But luckily, Meehna does. The process is 100% personal, private, and quite effective. And it works exactly like the famous TV series too!

Because all you have to do is send Meehna a video describing yourself (or better yet post one on Youtube or Vimeo), and the reason you’re searching for that perfect time piece. After a pre-qualifying interview, she’ll then setup a meeting and bring a very targeted set of brands and models for you to try on.

She’s typically right on spot, as her satisfied customers will tell you. And understandably so. Because when you combine the art of listening with the social and horology skills needed to match a prestigious wrist with its perfect time piece, then you have yourself one heck of a unique and cool business!

It surprises me that more people don’t have this title. Any WIS will no doubt offer friends and family this service as it is a joy to find the perfect watch that someone is looking for-but-to match the watch to the personality and not the request…that is impressive.
I expect there will be a lot more videos coming her way in the future.
