Facebook Fan Spotlight: Michael Nguyen

Michael thought our initial spotlight article was pretty cool and “liked” the link to it on Facebook. So we decided to give him a personal taste :)

Meet this 22 year old student and English teacher from Australia. Michael discovered Marvin through Ariel Adams’ famous blog and became a Facebook fan subsequently. His hobbies include fashion, riding motorcycles and, of course, watches! His favorite Marvin model: the M108.

We thought it would be best to let Michael express his own horology thoughts on today’s profile because, as you’ll soon discover, he’s quite a good writer! So we decided to give him an open mike:

“As a young person who has to find the fine balance between a work and life schedule, I find myself having to look at the time very often.
My life is very much like the typical modern young adult, I have responsibilities and I also have hobbies and interests that keep me occupied. There truly is never an idle moment in my life… Social networking keeps me in touch with all my friends and even keeps me updated on all my interests, whether it be about cars, fashion or watches, I am always connected to constant streams of information from all over the world.

It’s funny how common interests can connect people from all over the world. I soon discovered that an abundance of information on watches can be found online and not only at your local watch store, I started to regularly view Ablogtoread by Ariel Adams and that soon peaked my interests in Marvin watches. A quick check on Facebook connects me to their news stream, and before you know it, this company turns the tables and finds itself interested in what I have to say.

So why do I love my watches? To me, a watch symbolizes so much more than a mere way of telling the time when needed. When I look at my watch in the morning, it gives me an opportunity to prepare my thoughts and processes for the day. It has become a ritual that is seldom appreciated by people. They are so caught up in the action of life that sometimes the mere gesture of reading the time on our wrist becomes a luxury in itself.

I believe that Marvin watches are taking the right steps in moving forward with a generation that is so focused on the future. To me, Marvin is a company that is embracing technology and more importantly having an understanding of how people connect to each other in this fast paced world. Technology offers us a way to blur the lines between consumer and producer and in this world of hyper-connectivity, it is good to know that a watch company is moving forward not only for their own benefit, but for the benefit of their fans. Good move Marvin!

So thank you so much Michael for the kind words (and the cool pictures!)  and especially for the precious insight into what makes your busy young generation tick these days. We’re happy and honored to be part of it my friend!
