Facebook Fan Spotlight: Thomas Carey

We’ve been very lucky at Marvin being able to gather and grow a very engaged Facebook community. 1,228 fans in 4 months and counting. Over 10% of our fans have interacted with us on the page since January and a large proportion do so on an almost daily basis. In the grand scheme of engagement statistics for luxury watch brands, that’s not too shabby! :)

Over the past few months, I’ve gotten to know most of our fans pretty up close and personal. As you’d expect with horology aficionados, most of them have interesting lives and work stories. So I thought it would be nice to spotlight a specific Marvin Facebook fan (with his or her permission of course) on a periodic basis.

Our first such highlight is going to focus on a gentleman everyone knows in the online horology communities. His name is Thomas Carey. Thomas was, unsurprisingly, one of our first Facebook fans. So who is this man?

Professionally, he’s an independent rep for Luminox, Lum-Tec, and Clerc SA. Thomas pretty much lives on the internet when he’s not out and about traveling to or from a watch show in the USA.  As such, he has created and managed numerous Facebook horology pages including the ones for Clerc, Lumtec, Luminox, Patrizzi and CX Swiss.

Thomas worked in the printing industry at RR Donnelly for 17 years. He has significant experience selling at trade shows – everything from antique firearms to books and of course, watches. A lot of watches. Three years ago he created the Watch and Clock Forum (Marvin just opened its own section on there) which quickly became very popular. To put it in his own words:

“I got into watches about four years ago. I had an interest in them since I my first watch when I was 10. But never really got serious about it until recent years. At heart I am a sales and net marketing guy.”

Thomas has been one of our most active fans. Why? Because he’s all about sharing and helping people out. If someone has a question, needs advice, or is looking for some obscure horology fact buried somewhere, you can be sure Thomas is the man to ask. His insight on our industry has been precious to me in the past. That, plus he knows everybody in the business who happens to be online as well. Thomas is the quintessential “watch guy” you always hear about, and always generous with his time and insight.

And so I encourage you all to go out and meet Thomas. Send him an email or better yet, join our growing Facebook community and say hello in person. I promise you won’t regret it :)
